ESPN-Star Sports football pundit Paul Masefield conducted a football training session for Sporting Clube de Goa’s pre-academy players at the training ground, at Don Bosco ground in Panjim on today.
Sporting Clube de Goa who have a unique tie-up with Don Bosco School welcomed Masefield and his team for the session.
The British coach, who is based out of Singapore, really enjoyed training the young kids as he felt they showed a lot of enthusiasm, “It was a real pleasure to coach these talented young players as they truly worked well and you could tell they were receptive to the games,” remarked Masefield.
Many of the parents had gathered very early to watch their wards going through the drills. A lot of the football loving fathers recognised Masefield from his television appearances, which increased their curiosity to watch the practice.
Despite the pouring monsoons, the participants listened attentively to the advice given by Masefield and his assistant. The session was based on passing and creating effective triangles on route to goal, where accuracy, speed and decision making were stressed upon.
Masefield was brought to India by KOOH Sports, and he is set to visit a few more football set-ups around Goa over the next two days.
At the end, Sporting Clube de Goa manager Anju Albuerquerque presented Masefield with a souvenir autographed by the entire Flaming Oranje squad. Principal of Don Bosco School, Panjim Rev. Fr. Avin Carvalho, was also present along with the Don Bosco physical education teachers and Sporting Goa Academy coaches.
“It is vital that youngsters get exposure to quality football training in order to reach their full potential,” summed up Rev. Fr. Avin.
